Overpromised – Underfunded – Underdeliverred
The opening of the Wentworthville Commuter Carpark had more to do sweet media tactics than it did with reality, Holroyd Liberal Councillor Ross Grove said today.
“The state Labor government has been promising this carpark since I was in my early teens,” Clr Grove said, “But back then it was going to be multi-story and possibly have some capacity for future growth.”
“This carpark was completed on Thursday. It should have been opened on Thursday. But commuters had to wait ‘til the next week so the Premier could show off in front of the cameras and organize a ‘free sausage’ rent-a-crowd audience.
“All this goes to show is that the Rees Government is just like the two governments before it – more concerned with the gloss and media hype for tomorrow’s press and less concerned with building projects which might actually have capacity for future growth.
“In fact, if you manage to peer over to the other side of the railway tracks you can see the neglected Wentworthville Police Station in all its demountable school classroom glory.
“The state government is shortchanging our area because they take our votes for granted.”
