Recent council reports demonstrate that Councillors who attend large numbers of committee meetings are more inclined towards becoming “punch-card councillors” who whilst showing up on Council statistics as present, contribute very little to the proceedings or to the reform of local government as a whole; Liberal Councillor Ross Grove said today.

After spending the last fortnight embroiled in controversy over the rolling of Council’s WSROC delegates, Holroyd’s Labor-backed Independent Mayor has used questionable powers in Council’s Code of Meeting Practice to dismiss an extra-ordinary meeting called specifically to discuss the matter.

Liberal Councillors Ross Grove (Holroyd) and Zaya Toma (Fairfield) have joined together to bring Shadow Planning Minister Brad Hazzard out to visit the site where the state government approved the construction of a major arterial road to service a new industrial estate due inside the Southern Employment Lands at Greystanes.

For the second time since the local government elections, Labor and Independent Councillors have blocked together to prevent Holroyd’s youngest serving councillor, Ross Grove (Liberal) from attaining full membership of Council’s youth committee.
