Saturday, December 17th, 2011

Following my most recent post calling on Greenpeace to end their hardline against our local toilet paper manufacturer I have taken a number of steps which I thought I’d update you on.

At Council’s first December meeting I move a matter of urgency calling on council to write to the our federal member of parliament requesting an investigation into the actions of Greenpeace with regards to Solaris.

Attn Greenpeace: Stop killing local jobs

Monday, November 28th, 2011

Holroyd Councillor Ross Grove is calling on Greenpeace to immediately end their unreasonable vendetta against Greystanes-based paper-manufacturer Solaris after a research report from the Institute of Public Affairs exposed the organisation’s hardline approach to intimidating the corporate sector in order to make them sign up to their agenda.

“Solaris are welcome investors to our new industrial precinct at Pemulwuy, they’re creating jobs and they’re doing so in a reasonable manner.” Councillor Grove said.

“While not meeting the lofty standards of Greenpeace, Solaris take a number of steps to behave in an environmentally responsible manner. This includes attaining PEFC certification for the wood products they purchase overseas.

“Despite this, Greenpeace are running a hardline campaign demanding boycotts of Solaris, their suppliers, and their corporate partners further down the retail chain.

“I am quite concerned about the impact this has on local jobs. Recent research from the IPA indicates that Greenpeace are seeking to one day remove all choice from the market when it comes to products which don’t meet their stamp of approval.

“One can only wonder whether this is the intention of their donors or whether Greenpeace have lost touch with their more peaceful roots.”

The Institute for Public Affairs, of which Clr Grove is a member, recently published “Naked extortion? Environmental NGOs imposing [in]voluntary regulations on consumers and business” exposes the ugly tactics a number of people consider harassment and intimidation by activist groups such as Greenpeace against businesses who choose not to deal with them.
